Anthony Martial has dismissed speculation that he is about to leave Manchester United.
There have been rumours about the forward considering a move to Paris St Germain after not featuring in the last two games for the club.
Martial reportedly felt that he was being made a scapegoat for the poor form experienced by the club in recent weeks. Martial has not been in manager Jose Mourinho’s frame for much of the first half of the campaign. It has been down to a period of struggle for the French striker, who has managed only two league goals this season.
Mourinho gave Martial an ultimatum prior to the FA Cup game against Wigan Athletic. If the French striker came in with a magnificent performance, he would be given opportunities in the Premier League and the Europa League. Even though the striker failed to score in the game, he provided two assists as United ran out 4-0 winners over the lower league opposition.
It does not seem to have been enough for Mourinho, who dropped the striker for the last two games. In fact, he was not even in the matchday squad for the game against Hull City. Even though he returned to the substitutes bench in the recent 3-0 win over Leicester City, Martial did not make an appearance, with Mourinho deciding that playing him would be a bit like having a punt on Gowild Casino – the gamble could pay off, with Martial scoring for the Reds, or it could end up going the other way.
The striker has taken to Twitter in order to explain his situation. Sevilla were reportedly interested in taking the player on a loan deal during January, but Manchester United refused to let the player leave citing poor strength in depth in the forward positions.Martial was the top scorer for the club last season with 17 goals, but he has been completely overshadowed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the current campaign.”Anthony has to listen to me and not his agent,” said Mourinho in December. “Dont listen (to) the papers it’s wrong thanks. Come on United,” tweeted the player in response to the latest transfer speculation.
