Former Tottenham Hotspur star Stephen Kelly believes manager Mauricio Pochettino could make the potential switch to Manchester United or Real Madrid in the future, should Spurs continue to struggle to win trophies. The north London outfit made it all the way to the Champions League final last season but they could not cross the final hurdle after a 2-0 loss at the hands of Liverpool.
“Because his stock is getting higher and higher and it’s going to be harder and harder for them to keep hold of him because people will come knocking on his door. The opportunities are gone now for like Real Madrid and Manchester United, but they will come back around and if he is still rising up that ladder, there will be teams interested.”
With the Champions League final defeat, Spurs have gone 11 years without bagging a single trophy and that has been one of the down points despite the club’s tremendous progress over the past few seasons. Meanwhile, the lack of silverware could also witness the departure of key players and Christian Eriksen could be one of those heading through the exit door this summer.
The Dane has just 12 months remaining on his current deal with the club and so far, he has shown no intention of penning an extension. Real Madrid and Juventus have been touted as potential destinations for the former Ajax man, who has racked more than 275 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur across all competitions.
