Harry Kane has been a mainstay for Tottenham hotspur for the past few years but his display against Manchester United on Wednesday night left a sour taste in the mouth of many.
Former Spurs forward DimitarBerbatov was one of such disappointed fellows and the Bulgarian didn’t waste time in making his feelings known.
After recording two impressive back to back wins in Europe and at home, Tottenham’s defeat at Old Trafford represents Mourinho’s first defeat at the North London club. With that result though, United moved from the midtable to 6th, reminding Chelsea that the fight for the fourth-place finish is far from over.
Berbatov, although acknowledging that United did put in a good shift, Tottenham was not aided by Harry Kane’s back facing the home team’s goal for most of the match. For the Bulgarian any striker that choses to play with that frame has declared that scoring is not the priority of the game.
The Bulgarian who played for both outfit and remains loved by both clubs till this day also acknowledged Dele Alli’s goal. In using a flick off the rebound ball that was supposed to be heading out of the United defense, the youngster took the ball over Wan-Bassika’s head before slamming it home past De Gea.
By losing to United in December, a team that sacked him December last year, Mourinho now has a better view as to what part of his squad needs restructuring. The January transfer window can’t wait.
Kane’s display will however remain what it is: an off day. The England striker has single handedly dragged Spurs through the mud since launching himself onto the world scene and with Chelsea and United reportedly trying to sign him and failing at every turn, the home boy has shown that his loyalty with Spurs remain as strong as ever.
