Andres Iniesta has clearly stated that he is not going to part ways with Barcelona to feature in the Barclays Premier League.
There have been Barcelona players in the past who have turned to England, but, according to Iniesta, there is absolutely no chance of him following the footsteps of some of his former teammates.
In his talk to one of the popular Spanish dailies a few days ago, Iniesta, who is now also the skipper at Camp Nou, said, “The thought of going to EPL has never crossed my mind. As far as I am concerned, Barcelona is the best Football club in the world and I can’t be more happy and satisfied anywhere else.”
“I hope I go on and complete the contract that I have with Barca. That’s what I want.”
Actually since the time Pedro went to Chelsea, the rumours were hot that Iniesta might do something similar before this transfer window shuts down or maybe in the winter.
But, now with Iniesta clearing the air, those rumours would perhaps be put to rest.
Iniesta also talked about his feelings after being handed Barcelona captaincy on a full time basis.
In the words of the 31-year old, “It’s such a proud thing to lead the club which you have been a part of for such a long time. It’s an absolute honour and I want to thank everyone for putting the trust in me. I will try to fulfil the responsibility as well as I can.”
La Blaugrana will start their La Liga playing against Athletic Bilbao the coming Sunday.
That’s an away game for them to be played at San Mames.
Being the reigning champions, they would like to avoid any upset and get on to the points table nice and early.
